U.S. forecaster sees 60 percent chance of El Niño during fall

At peak of European heatwave, Portugal battles wildfire, power outage

(Reuters) – There is a 60 percent chance of the El Niño weather pattern emerging during the northern hemisphere fall of 2018, a U.S. government weather forecaster said on Thursday.

Chances of the weather pattern occurring during winter 2018-19 stood at 70 percent, the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC) said in its monthly forecast.
